Wine bars, lounges and late rooms — city by city

VIBE AND VINE

A guide that sorts drinking spots by the kind of night you want, not by how close they are.

  • Mood-first filters
  • Picked by people
  • Lists you can send

It is 7pm and nobody has picked the place

You know the group chat. Someone suggests a bar, someone else has been and it was all high stools and a playlist you could hear from the street. Three apps open, forty photographs of food, and still no idea what the room feels like at nine on a Thursday.

That is the gap VIBE AND VINE works in. We are not trying to list every licensed premises within two kilometres of you. We are trying to answer the only question anyone actually asks: is this a good place to be tonight, with these people, for this reason?

So the guide is built around the night rather than the map. First date where you need to hear each other. Friday that should get loud. A glass alone with a book and no one topping you up every four minutes. Pick that, and the list rebuilds itself around it — wine bars, lounges, listening rooms, hotel bars that are better than they sound, the small ones with eight seats and a board that changes weekly.

What the guide actually does

Filter by mood, not postcode

Loud and late, quiet corner, first date, after work, somewhere that will still pour at midnight. Choose the night and the list reorders itself around it.

Room notes before you go

How loud it gets, whether there is a seat for two at the bar, standing-only or tables, music that fills the room or sits under it. The details photographs never show.

Happy hours and one-night things

Tastings, by-the-glass boards that change on a Tuesday, pop-ups that exist for one evening. Listed with the hours they are actually on.

Reviews from people who were in the room

Short, honest and about the place rather than the plating. Rate it on the way home while you still remember what it was like.

Save it, send it, settle it

Build a shortlist of three, send it as one link, let the group pick. Favourites stay saved for the next time someone says 'you choose'.

How a place gets onto the list

Someone goes. That is the unglamorous centre of all of this — a person sits at the bar on a normal evening, orders by the glass, and writes down what the room is like when it is half full and again when it is three deep.

What gets recorded is the stuff that decides your night: how loud it is at the busy hour, whether there is anywhere to put a coat, how the list reads if you do not know the regions, whether the staff let you taste before you commit, and how late the last pour really is rather than what the sign says.

It is slower than scraping a map. It is also the reason the list is worth opening at 7pm when nobody has picked the place.

What people tell us

★★★★★
I searched 'quiet enough to talk' and got four places within walking distance. We went to the second one and stayed until they stacked the chairs.

The noise notes are the bit I actually use. Saved me from booking another birthday in a room where everyone shouts.
Dan
★★★★★
Sent three saved spots to the group chat instead of arguing for an hour. Someone picked in two minutes.
